Goal Accountability

Posted on January 13, 2011 by

I was recently talking with a potential client who had an idea that they wanted to implement. There are many of you who have an idea you would like to work on. Below is a list of suggestions on how to stick with an idea until you make it a reality.

Tell trusted friends about your idea.
Telling people about your idea will allow you to gauge whether your idea is as good as you think it is.

Establish cheerleaders.
Staying focused on an idea can be difficult. It is important to have people in your life there to cheer you on when things get tough.

Outline your goals.
Create benchmarks for your success. When you have short-term achievable goals it will help you to stay positive.

Celebrate successes large and small.
Keep your cheerleaders up to date with everything that is happening with the project. It is ok to be excited about a challenge you overcame, even if there is still a lot more work to be done.

Be accountable to yourself and others.
Let the people who care about you and your project be aware of your successes and failures. Often we like to hide our failures, but they are often the reason why things get hung up on a project. By acknowledging their existence we can then face them. Often by talking about them we can also see the problem in new ways as well.
